Provide Impartial Training to Board Members: The Problem
Typically, HOA boards consist of homeowners who volunteer to serve in roles for which they have varying abilities. Board members rarely understand the procedural rules they must follow and often lack the managerial skills, customer service skills, and ethical principles to govern well. In addition, training is usually only available through property management companies that have their profit agenda behind their training programs.
Objective
The objective of the board training initiative is to provide impartial training to board members. Currently, the only training available to board members is provided by property management companies who steer board members to their point of view. We will find suitable impartial board training programs that we can recommend, or if they do not exist, we may consider providing them here.
Five Key Steps for this Initiative
- Research the issue. This phase has not begun. We hope you will volunteer to help with this.
- Propose a solution.
- Engage stakeholders.
- Implement the solution.
- Verify the solution.
Owners Are Asking: How can I help?
- If you have some time we need a lot of help with the Initiatives. Please consider volunteering.
- At the very least all owners should complete these anonymous questionnaires. (When you complete the forms we will use that data to show legislators what the problems are).

Progress on Impartial Training for Board Members in Pennsylvania
To date, we have only been able to identify training provided by Property Management Companies (PMCs), which appears to be more about influencing board members than training them.
